Together with our local partner Mada Megafauna we are offering ‘scientific stays’; where you will be helping our field team with data collection and data entry, and spend your days swimming with whale sharks! In the afternoon you will participate to a new green turtle project. A minimum commitment of 3 weeks, as well as basic French and strong swimming abilities are required. Find out more here.
*Dates for 2018 coming soon*
We currently do not offer bachelor or master thesis projects.
Join us for a day
Whale shark season in Nosy Be runs from September to December, the best time to see them is in October and November. You can join us for a day in the water to swim with whale sharks and learn more about our research, as our team goes out daily with clients. Contact Les Baleines Rand’eau directly either by email or phone ahead of time as it is the busy season.
Join an organised trip
Project Co-supervisor and whale shark expert Dr.Simon Pierce hosts a private weekly trip each year with travel company Aqua-Firma, who has been supporting us financially since the project started. The 2018 dates are already open for bookings so have a look at the trip details!
Our field team also delivers regular presentations about whale shark ecology and research during the season.
